Common Terminologies used in Internet Security

If you are a newbie in Internet security, you have come to the right place. The following is information on some common terms used in Internet security. So next time you don’t have to scratch your head when someone uses these.

Firewall – is a system that acts as a barrier between your computer network and the Internet. A firewall controls the flow of information according to security policies.

Hacker – can be anyone specializing in accessing computer based systems for illegal purposes or just for the fun of it.

IP spoofing – is an attempt to access your system by pretending like another system. This is done by setting up a system with an IP address that you normally trust.

Sniffing – is the spying on electronic transmissions to access data. This mostly occurs in privately owned LAN networks connected to the web.

Trojan horse – a program pretending like useful software, while its actual strategy is to access, steal or destroy user data and access authorization. Apart from destroying information, trojans can also create a backdoor on your system for stealing confidential information.

Virus – is a program that attaches itself to a program or file. This allows it to spread across networks and cause damage to software and hardware. To operate, viruses require the execution of the attached file.

Worm - A worm is almost similar to a virus, except that it doesn’t need the execution of any executable file to get activated. It can also replicate itself as it travels across networks

Take Ownership of Files and Folders in Windows 7 – An Easy Way

If you are a Windows 7 user, then you are most likely be aware of the fact that you need toTAKE OWNERSHIP of files and folders before you can make any changes to them. This feature was introduced in order to prevent any unauthorized changes from being made to the system files. However it can be little annoying to follow a long list of procedure every time you want to take ownership of a certain file or folder. So to make this job simpler, I have found a nice tool called Take Ownership Shell Extension which adds the “Take Ownership” option to the Windows context menu. This makes taking ownership too simple and requires no more than a click.

Take Ownership

Just run the portable tool kit and click on the “Install” button. This will add the “Take Ownership” option onto the context menu. To take ownership all you need to do is, just right-click on any of the desired file or folder and click the option “Take Ownership“.

In case if you wish to uninstall this tool at any time, you can just run the tool again and click on the ”Uninstall” button. I hope you like this tool. This works on both Windows 7 and Windows Vista. You can download it from the following link

How to Download YouTube Videos: Easiest Way

there are many ways to download videos from YouTube, but here in this post, I would like to share with you one of the easiest way to do that. This can be done as follows:

1. Download and install the latest version of Internet Download Manager.

Internet Download Manager is a great add-on for your web browser which increases the download speed by 5 times. It also helps you to pause/resume and schedule your downloads. It has got a great interface and is user friendly. It works with most of the browsers including IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera.

2. After you complete the installation, just open your browser and start searching for your favorite video on YouTube. You will see the download button on top of the video using which you can download it instantly.

3. Click on the “Download this Video” button to save the video onto your computer. The downloaded video will be in the flash video format (.flv).

4. You can use VLC Player to play the downloaded video or use SUPER to convert it to your desired format.

By using this trick, you can download almost all the buffering content on the Internet including videos from MySpace and Google. I hope you like this small post. Don’t forget to pass your comments. Enjoy :)
